We meet weekly on Saturday mornings at The Titchfield Festival Theatre and provide excellent tuition in
all areas of Stagecraft and Drama, which is delivered by very experienced tutors.
We are a Youth Theatre which concentrates on Acting, Drama and Performance.
TYT is for young people aged 8 to 16 years old who wish to develop their drama skills in a fun creative environment,
working together as an ensemble which teaches them commitment and gives them confidence
in themselves to create and connect with others.
Each session involves drama games, improvisation, theatre skills and script work leading up to a final performance.
There is a great emphasis on fun and the development of their acting skills, with the children enjoying the weekly sessions showing their enthusiasm throughout. They thoroughly enjoy performing and when they do they are very disciplined in their approach
and an absolute credit to themselves.
We aim to do three productions in the school year usually one in Spring (March/April), one in the Summer (July) and
one in the Autumn (Oct/Nov), and on occasion some smaller performances, which can be
workshop based, throughout the year to showcase what they have been learning.
All the children are involved in these.
These productions give our youngsters the opportunity to play a wide range of parts in a supportive and creative environment
and these take place at the TFT venues which are the Acorn Studio Theatre, the main Oak Theatre
and the historical Great Barn.
The original ethos of TYT very much remains today as when it was first set up in 2008.
TYT have achieved critical acclaim for their performances and in 2012 received two nominations at the
Curtain Call Awards in Southampton.
We are part of the Titchfield Festival Theatre's Youth Program and as such this enables the children to also have
the opportunity to perform in their productions too.
Our members have appeared in many productions including David Copperfield, The Railway Children; Alice in Wonderland;
Goodnight Mister Tom; The Wizard of OZ, the summer Shakespeare productions at The Great Barn
and their annual Christmas pantomime and musical theatre shows.
Opportunities are also there to get involved backstage and learn more about the show Tech.
As and when they present themselves there are other opportunities to perform locally and in National Drama Festivals too.
If you are interested in joining please contact us and come along for a free taster session.
About Us
Julian Sluggett, who has now sadly passed away, was instumental in setting up TYT along with Kevin Fraser, Artistic Director at The Titchfield Festival Theatre in 2008, and orignially working along side Julian was also Frankie Patterson who still continues to support and be involved. With his guidance and huge wealth of experience, audiences witnessed an incredible range of plays and performances, giving many young people of all ages and abilites the opportunity to extend their acting and performance skills. The ethos, from the beginning, was about having fun and working as an effective ensemble, supporting and respecting each other.
TYT is now continuing as he would of wanted with the excellent tutors and support who worked along side him
and additional new team members.
